SBI chief: Home loan portfolio poised to exceed ₹10 lakh crore next fiscal year amid robust demand.

**SBI Home Loan Portfolio Set to Exceed ₹10 Lakh Crore Next Year**

**State Bank of India (SBI) is on track to surpass ₹10 lakh crore in its home loan portfolio in the upcoming fiscal year, fueled by strong demand and a favorable interest rate environment.**

New Delhi, Dec 21: The State Bank of India (SBI), recognized as the largest lender in the country, is poised to reach a significant milestone as its home loan portfolio is projected to exceed ₹10 lakh crore in the next financial year. This growth is attributed to robust demand and a favorable low-interest-rate climate. Currently, SBI’s home loan portfolio stands at over ₹9 lakh crore, constituting more than 20% of the bank’s total assets, according to SBI Chairman C S Setty.

With a growth rate of 14%, SBI is well-positioned to achieve this target, having recently crossed the ₹9 lakh crore threshold last month, solidifying its status as the leading mortgage loan provider in India. The bank concluded FY25 with a home loan book of ₹8.31 lakh crore, reflecting a 14.4% increase from the previous fiscal year.

SBI has steadily built its home loan portfolio over the years, reaching the ₹1 lakh crore milestone in March 2011 and now nearing ₹10 lakh crore. The bank has also effectively managed its non-performing assets (NPAs) in this segment, maintaining them at less than 1%, with a gross NPA rate of 0.72% in home loans—one of the lowest in the banking sector.

Setty has previously expressed confidence that the momentum in the Retail, Agriculture, and MSME (RAM) segment will contribute to an overall credit growth of 14% for the current fiscal year. The RAM segment, which accounts for 67% of SBI’s total loan portfolio, surpassed the ₹25 lakh crore mark in September.

In light of improving economic conditions, SBI has revised its credit growth target from 12% to 14% for the ongoing financial year. Setty noted, “We see robust credit growth, particularly from the RAM segment, with MSME loans growing at nearly 17-18% and agriculture and retail around 14%.” Additionally, the bank is experiencing strong growth in gold loans, while unsecured personal loans are expected to see double-digit growth.

In conclusion, SBI’s strategic focus on home loans and proactive asset management positions it well for continued growth in the coming fiscal year, reinforcing its leadership in the Indian banking sector.
