The 90-degree bridge in Bhopal will undergo a redesign following confusion caused by its sharp turn.

**Aishbagh Bridge in Bhopal to Undergo Redesign After Public Outcry**

The newly-constructed Aishbagh Bridge in Bhopal, known for its controversial 90-degree turn, is set to be redesigned following significant public concern and media scrutiny. The Indian Railways has agreed to provide additional land to facilitate these modifications, addressing the safety fears raised by local residents and social media users regarding the bridge’s design flaws.

Spanning 648 meters in length and 8.5 meters in width, the bridge was built at a cost of Rs 18 crore. Its sharp turn has alarmed many, who worry it could lead to accidents. In response to these concerns, sources from the Public Works Department (PWD) confirmed that once the railway transfers the necessary land, the bridge will be modified. This will involve removing the existing railing at the problematic turn, which has been identified as a traffic choke point.

A measurement team was dispatched to the bridge to assess the 90-degree turn, with plans to transform it into a more gradual curve. This redesign aims to increase the bridge’s width by approximately three feet, which is expected to alleviate congestion and enhance safety for commuters in one of Lucknow’s busiest areas.

PWD officials have indicated that the project will proceed as soon as the land transfer is completed, with construction anticipated to begin shortly thereafter. Initially, project officials defended the original design, citing logistical constraints due to the proximity of a metro station. Chief Engineer of the PWD’s Bridge Department, VD Verma, explained that limited land availability left them with few options, emphasizing that the bridge’s purpose is to connect two local colonies.

In response to the criticism, PWD Minister Rakesh Singh remarked that expert opinions often emerge post-construction, asserting that numerous technical factors are considered during bridge design. He stated that any allegations regarding the design will be thoroughly investigated.

As the redesign moves forward, it represents a crucial step toward improving traffic flow and safety in the area, reflecting the importance of public feedback in infrastructure development.
