**Kestrel Aviation Operations Suspended by DGCA After Emergency Landing**

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has immediately suspended all operations of Kestrel Aviation Pvt Ltd in Uttarakhand following an emergency landing incident involving one of its helicopters. The helicopter, which was transporting pilgrims to Kedarnath, made an emergency landing on a highway in the Badasu region on Saturday, prompting regulatory action.

This suspension is part of a broader safety enforcement initiative by the DGCA, aimed at enhancing oversight of helicopter operations during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra. In an official statement, the DGCA announced that it has launched a comprehensive safety investigation into recent emergency landings and operational incidents involving helicopters in the area.

The DGCA emphasized the necessity of strengthening safety oversight due to multiple occurrences related to helicopter operations during the Char Dham Yatra, reiterating its zero-tolerance policy for safety violations. As a result, the aviation regulator has mandated special audits and increased surveillance of all helicopter operators involved in shuttle and charter services throughout Uttarakhand.

In a precautionary measure, the DGCA is also evaluating the potential need to limit helicopter operations to Char Dham if further risks are identified. Until further notice, all helicopter operators are required to conduct flights only under Out-of-Ground Effect (OGE) conditions to enhance safety.

Additionally, the DGCA has begun monitoring live camera feeds from the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) helipads, particularly at Kedarnath, to oversee helicopter movements and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) in real time. Earlier today, two operators were temporarily suspended for failing to follow SOPs regarding proper parking at their helipads.

The suspension of Kestrel Aviation follows similar actions taken against another helicopter operator in May 2025 due to safety violations. The DGCA’s ongoing investigations aim to identify root causes, including mechanical issues, human error, and weather-related challenges, to prevent future incidents and protect the lives of both pilgrims and crew members.
