Tiger Woods is set to make his return to golf on Tuesday, participating in the indoor TGL league. The league has confirmed that Woods will be playing for the Jupiter Links as they face off against the New York Golf Club. At 49 years old, Woods had originally intended to compete in the Genesis Invitational but decided to withdraw, stating he was still “processing” the recent death of his mother.
Woods shared last week that his mother, Kultida, passed away at the age of 78. In a statement, he expressed, “I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss.” He also thanked everyone who reached out to him during this difficult time, mentioning his hope to participate at Torrey later in the week.
The organizers of the Genesis Invitational honored Kultida by placing a white flag at the par-4 seventh hole. This gesture is a tribute to her faith, as she practiced Buddhism. The color white and the number seven hold significant meaning in Buddhism, symbolizing enlightenment, knowledge, and purity. Kultida was born in Thailand, where the national flag features white stripes that represent Buddhism.
Woods has not competed in a tournament since the British Open in July 2024. His upcoming participation in the TGL league marks his first event since undergoing a microdiscectomy in September to relieve leg pain, which was his sixth surgery on his lower back. The last time Woods completed four rounds in a tournament was at the previous year’s Masters, where he set a record for the most cuts made at the prestigious event with his 24th consecutive cut.
