The Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has achieved a remarkable milestone by collecting Rs 22,337.62 crore in revenue up to August 2025. This figure represents an increase of Rs 3,021.41 crore compared to the previous year, driven by a surge in liquor sales throughout the state. The rise in alcohol consumption has significantly contributed to the state government’s revenue growth.

In August alone, the department generated Rs 3,754.43 crore, which is Rs 174.24 crore higher than the revenue collected in the same month last year. Minister of State for Excise, Nitin Agrawal, announced this achievement, stating, “The department has broken its own revenue record till August this year.”

In addition to revenue growth, the Uttar Pradesh government has intensified its efforts to combat illegal liquor trade. During this period, nearly 2.69 lakh litres of illicit liquor were seized, resulting in the arrest of 1,995 individuals, with 351 offenders sent to jail. Furthermore, 23 vehicles involved in smuggling operations were confiscated.

Nitin Agrawal informed PTI that, following the Chief Minister’s directives, a special enforcement drive is currently underway from August 28 to September 6. As of August 31, this initiative has led to the registration of 1,587 cases, the seizure of 38,099 litres of illegal liquor, and the arrest of 340 individuals, 83 of whom have been incarcerated.
