**Man Critically Injured in Fire Pit Accident During Muharram Rituals**

A man suffered severe burn injuries after falling into a fire pit during Muharram rituals in Raichur district, Karnataka, on Sunday night. The victim, identified as Hanumanth, was participating in the Alayi ritual, a traditional observance of Muharram, when he accidentally slipped and fell into the flames in Yeragunti village, located in Lingsugur taluk.

Local villagers rushed to assist him but faced difficulties in pulling him out due to the intensity of the fire. Hanumanth was initially taken to Lingsugur Taluk Hospital and later transferred to RIMS Hospital in Raichur, where he remains in critical condition. The incident has left the local community, gathered for the annual religious event, in shock.

Mounesh, a relative of Hanumanth, recounted the incident, stating, “He accidentally slipped and fell into the Alayi fire pit while walking nearby. The fire was too intense, and we couldn’t rescue him immediately. Later, the villagers managed to pull him out. He was first taken to the Lingsugur Taluk Hospital and then shifted to RIMS.”

This tragic event echoes a similar incident that occurred in April in Tamil Nadu, where a 56-year-old devotee lost his life after falling into an ember pit during a fire-walking ritual at the Subbaiya Temple festival in Kuyavankudi, Ramanathapuram district. The ritual, known as Theemidhi Thiruvizha, involves devotees walking barefoot across burning embers to fulfill vows. The victim, Kesavan from Valantharavai village, tripped and fell face-first onto the embers while running across the pit. Despite the quick response from the rescue team, he suffered severe burns and later died at the Ramanathapuram District Government Hospital.

As communities continue to observe traditional rituals, the importance of safety measures during such events cannot be overstated.
