Governor of Pennsylvania Josh Shapiro faced criticism for a remark he made about the Cowboys during his speech at the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro couldn’t resist mentioning the Dallas Cowboys while celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. During the Eagles’ victory parade for their Super Bowl win, Shapiro delivered a speech where he claimed the Eagles have become “America’s Team.”

“People love to hate on the Eagles. People love to hate on Philly. I think we became America’s Team in all of this. I hope Dallas hears this,” Shapiro exclaimed during his address. He later shared a Sports Illustrated article discussing his remarks on social media, prompting a wave of criticism.

One user commented, “Crazy thinking about a team that hasn’t won a Super Bowl in 30 years during the parade.” Another added, “We don’t want to be America’s team. Why would you think we do? Just stop.” Critics also highlighted that the Eagles share their state with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have a more successful history, boasting six Super Bowl victories compared to the Eagles’ two. “They’re not even Pennsylvania’s team,” one user pointed out, while another asked, “If the Steelers win next year…what will you say?”

Many users criticized the length of Shapiro and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker’s speeches, with Parker even facing boos and chants of “wrap it up!” from the crowd. “You and the mayor should’ve just said ‘Go Birds’ and exited the stage. No one was there to see either of you,” one user remarked. Another added, “You and Cherelle hogged way too much time at the podium. Nobody wanted to listen to either of you.”

In a separate matter, Shapiro has faced backlash from conservatives after suing the Trump administration to unfreeze federal funds. He argued that the administration’s decision threatens important Pennsylvania projects, including efforts to reclaim abandoned mine land and reduce consumer costs. “The federal government has entered into a contract with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, promising to provide billions of dollars in congressionally approved funding that we have committed to serious needs,” Shapiro stated. He emphasized that the funding freeze is a breach of contract, and his administration is pursuing legal action to safeguard the interests of Pennsylvania and its residents.
