India highlights an AI-manipulated video of the Army Chief and cautions against misinformation from Pakistan.

**AI-Generated Fake Video of Army Chief Exposed by PIB**

India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) has recently uncovered a fabricated video featuring Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, which has been disseminated by Pakistani propaganda accounts. The PIB’s fact-checking unit has urged the public to rely solely on verified and official sources for information.

On Thursday, the Indian government issued a warning regarding a new wave of AI-generated fake videos targeting General Dwivedi. One widely circulated doctored clip on social media platform X falsely depicts the Army Chief making comments about the alleged custodial death of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. PIB confirmed that the video is entirely fabricated and clarified that General Dwivedi has not made any such statements.

“This fake video has been created using AI technology. The Chief of the Army Staff has made no such statement,” PIB Fact Check stated, emphasizing the importance of not falling for manipulated content. The unit also shared the authentic, unedited video of General Dwivedi’s remarks through official channels.

Officials have expressed concern that such videos are intended to spread misinformation and undermine trust in the Indian armed forces. Citizens are advised to refrain from sharing unverified content and to depend on credible sources for accurate information.

This incident is part of a broader trend of misinformation. Previously, Pakistani accounts circulated another fake video claiming that General Dwivedi suggested ceding Arunachal Pradesh to China to prevent Beijing from supporting Pakistan. This doctored clip also alleged that he acknowledged Chinese technology had compromised Rafale jets during past India-Pakistan tensions. PIB dismissed this video as AI-generated misinformation, reiterating that the Army Chief made no such remarks.

In addition, a separate fake video targeting President Droupadi Murmu has also been flagged. Pakistani propaganda accounts on X circulated a digitally altered clip falsely claiming she warned about extremism, diminishing freedoms, and threats to minorities in India. PIB confirmed that the President never made those comments and provided the authentic clip alongside the doctored version, including a link to her full Constitution Day speech.

Officials have stated that these coordinated disinformation efforts aim to create confusion and erode public confidence in national institutions. They have urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify any sensitive content before sharing it.

**FAQ**
