**Sri Lankan Navy Detains Four Tamil Nadu Fishermen for Border Violation**

Four fishermen from Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, were apprehended by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). Their fishing vessel, owned by a local fisherman named Muniyasamy, was seized near Thalaimannar.

On the day of the incident, approximately 400 fishermen had set out from the Rameswaram Fishing Port in 88 boats. While operating in the waters between Thalaimannar and Dhanushkodi, they were intercepted by a Sri Lankan Navy patrol vessel. The Navy detained the four fishermen aboard Muniyasamy’s boat for violating maritime regulations.

Following an initial inquiry, the detained fishermen are expected to be transferred to officials from the Mannar Fisheries Department for further proceedings. This incident adds to a growing list of similar arrests; since January 2025, Sri Lankan authorities have detained 185 Indian fishermen and confiscated 25 boats for comparable violations.

In a related event on June 29, eight Indian fishermen from Rameswaram were also arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for crossing the IMBL. During that incident, around 3,000 fishermen had ventured out to sea in 370 boats, and several reported being surrounded by Sri Lankan Navy patrol boats near the North Mannar region, leading to the detention of the eight fishermen.

As tensions continue over maritime boundaries, these incidents highlight the ongoing challenges faced by fishermen in the region.
